Dennis was raised in Wichita. Both his parents worked full time and gave their children less attention at home. He went on to describe feeling neglected, especially by his mother, and despising her for it.
He had horrific sexual desires about torturing “trapped and helpless” women since he was a child. Dennis was also a zoosadist, torturing, killing, and hanging little animals. He acted out voyeurism, autoerotic asphyxiation, and cross-dressing sexual proclivities.
He frequently did a survey on female neighbors while dressed in women’s attire, including stolen women’s pants, and masturbated while wearing ropes or other binds around his arms and neck. Dennis later revealed that he was acting as his victims in a sexual fantasy.
He, on the other hand, kept his sexual tendencies disguised and was largely considered in his community as “normal, courteous, and well mannered.” His wife was accorded an “emergency divorce” on July 26, 2005, following Dennis’ incarceration, waiving the normal waiting period.
In a 2019 interview with ABC News, Kerri stated how she still writes to her father and has forgiven him, but she still struggles to connect him with the BTK killer, claiming that her upbringing seemed common and that they were a “normal American family.”
