Carlson moved to South Carolina, where she obtained her first job in the Myrtle Beach area at CBS affiliate WBTW, fresh out of college and ready for an experience. She was hired as a weekend producer and was rapidly plunged into several major events in her first two months, including the TWA 800 accident and Hurricanes Bertha and Fran.
Later, she became a “one-man band” reporter, photographer, filming and editing her own stories for daily newscasts. After leaving WBTW, she was employed by WWMT-Ch. 3 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was assigned to cover numerous major stories, including the 2000 Presidential Election doubt in West Palm Beach, FL, and Timothy McVeigh’s execution.
Kelcey spent most of her career at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina. She started as a reporter before moving on to host weekend newscasts and subsequently the weekday morning show. During her stay there, she covered several major hurricanes, including Hurricane Isabel, which ravaged the southern Outer Banks.
She moved to Minnesota in 2014 for a terrific chance for her family with FOX 9 as the lead evening anchor. Kelcey was the first reporter to arrive at Paisley Park on the morning of Prince’s death after receiving a tip.
She field-anchored FOX 9’s news that day, as well as live coverage following the explosion at Minnehaha Academy. She has covered the Super Bowl in Houston and the Super Bowl in our own backyard here in the Twin Cities throughout her career at FOX 9.
