Kristine Uyeno KHON2
While attending Waipahu High School and working for the school newspaper, Kristine Uyeno developed an interest in journalism. She liked meeting new people, connecting with them, and learning about their lives.
She worked as an anchor and reporter in Bozeman, Montana, Seattle, and Las Vegas before coming to Honolulu. One of her most unforgettable encounters was interviewing a former Schofield soldier who had lost both arms and both legs in an Iraqi bombing and was preparing for a double-arm transplant.
“He was an inspiration to everyone, including myself,” she says. She joined the Wake Up 2day crew as an anchor in July 2016 following four years of reporting for KHON2.
“It’s not easy waking up at 1:30 a.m.,” she admits, “but I laugh so hard with my coworkers every morning. Then, after I finish my shift, I have the rest of the day to do things I couldn’t do before, like hiking and going to my son’s volleyball games.”
