Lesley Visser CBS
Visser came to public attention in January 1981 with her story about the 1978-79 Boston College basketball point shaving scandal after being falsely informed by gamblers and members of the New York Mafia that Boston College Eagle basketball player Michael Bowie was involved. Later, the Globe and Bowie reached an agreement that included a confidentiality clause.
Joe Levine, an ESPN producer, persuaded Bowie to take a break and speak with the network. In 1983, she appeared in a few CBS specials. Visser began working part-time for CBS Sports in 1984 and was promoted to full-time in 1987. Her assignments included the NBA, college basketball (including the Final Four), MLB, college football, horse racing, tennis and the Olympics.
After CBS lost the broadcasting rights to NFL games in 1993, Visser moved to ABC Sports and ESPN. She made history as the first woman to report from the sidelines of a Super Bowl when she covered Super Bowl XXXIX for ABC in 1995. In 1998, she was the first woman to be assigned to Monday Night Football. She also covered Super Bowl XXXIV for ABC in 2000. In September 2007, she returned to her roots by writing a column for CBSSports.com.
