Kerr attended the University of Arizona from 1983 to 1988 after being lightly recruited out of high school. He was selected in the United States national squad for the FIBA World Championship in Spain in the summer of 1986.
After the 2003 NBA Finals, he announced his retirement. He played 910 regular-season games in the NBA and won a total of five NBA championships during his career. Kerr joined Turner Network Television (TNT) as a television commentator in 2003, providing insight alongside analyst Marv Albert.
He agreed to take over as head coach of the Golden State Warriors on May 14, 2014, in a five-year deal worth $25 million with Mark Jackson as his assistant.
