Matt Devitt WINK -TV
Devitt began his professional career with KTEN-TV in Tornado Alley. After forecasting in Arkansas and Georgia for several years, he returned to his home state in 2016 to join WINK News. The following year, Southwest Florida relied on Matt and the Weather Authority Team to help them through Hurricane Irma’s landfall on Marco Island.
He heads the WINK weather department and mentors a staff of meteorologists as well as interns from all across the country. He is a member of the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society.
He is an active member of the community, particularly with the American Cancer Society, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Southwest Florida, in addition to storm and school speeches. Devitt always wanted to be a meteorologist since he was seven years old, and he is thankful that he gets to do what he enjoys every day.
Matt Devitt Dog Of The Day
Devitt arrived from Southwest Florida to replace WINK meteorologist Joey Sovine who was well-known for his off-air antics, such as dancing in the studio between segments. Devitt realized that he needed to develop his own brand. Irma was the first, and then he developed the well-known Dog Walking Forecast.
When he’s on-air in the mornings, he’ll display a viewer-submitted dog photo (his childhood dog, Bella, was the first) and offer a 15-to-30-second forecast, letting pet owners know if the weather is suitable for a walk. Now that he’s returned to his home state, he’s earned his position in the hearts of people across the area. His online presence is beyond dog-walking forecasts.
