Bern Nadette Stanis Good Times
From February 8, 1974, until August 1, 1979, CBS broadcast six seasons of the American sitcom Good Times. It was the first two-parent African American family sitcom on CBS. Bern played the role of Thelma Evans Anderson.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, production on the revival has been put on hold. Florida and James Evans and their three children are the main characters of the play. They reside in a public housing complex in a deplorable black area of inner-city Chicago.
Episodes of Good Times deal with the characters’ struggles with poverty while they reside in a Chicago high-rise project building. The first two episodes stand out for having a strong, liberal social viewpoint that is representative of liberalism in the 1970s.
In an interview, Bern revealed that since the conclusion of the show, she has never experienced financial difficulty thanks to her spending habits, financial planning and royalties. The late Esther Rolle, who passed away on November 17, 1998, at the age of 78, served as her acting mentor.
