Terrell and former Los Angeles Superior Court judge Burton Katz co-hosted Terrell & Katz, a daily talk show that debuted on KMPC radio in Los Angeles on June 3, 1996. Terrell & Katz was a debate show in which Terrell played the liberal and Katz played the conservative.
On October 5, 1996, KABC switched to weekends. Until August 15, 2010, he had a weekend legal show on KABC, and he is still a recurring guest host on KABC’s The Peter Tilden Show. As of July 2021, he has returned to KABC with a new weekday afternoon drive show called Leo 2.0 Live @ 5.

Terrell became a member of the California State Bar on December 4, 1990.
He served as Chairman of the Black-Korean Alliance, on the Advisory Board of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and on the Statewide Commission Against Hate Crimes. In 1990, he joined the NAACP and began providing pro bono legal services to the organization.
He resigned from the NAACP, however, after voicing support for Carolyn Kuhl, a Los Angeles County judge nominated by President George W. Bush to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, whose confirmation was filibustered in the United States Senate. Terrell ran for City Council District 10 in Los Angeles in 2003, finishing sixth out of seven candidates.

Terrell represented Kumasi Simmons, a former Centennial High School football player who was expelled in 1995 for assaulting a referee. Simmons accused the official of using racial slurs. According to Terrell, the Beverly Hills Police Department pressured witnesses who could back up Simmons’ story.
In 1999, Terrell asked the Los Angeles Police Commission to hear testimony from witnesses who said that a homeless woman, Margaret Laverne Mitchell, was running when police officers shot her. In 2012, he requested an investigation into misbehavior by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department trainees.
