Cassuis Paxton, Judge Marblean Ephriam
Mablean founded his own law franchise in 1982 and has managed a variety of personal damage and family disputes. On a daily basis, she assists in the operation of her non-profit organization, the Mablean Ephriam Foundation.
The foundation’s mission is to strengthen families, educate minds, and economically encourage residents in underserved areas of Los Angeles.
It also offers academic and cultural enrichment opportunities, as well as scholarships, to graduating seniors. Mablean also started the Honoring Unsung Fathers (H.U.F.) Awards and Scholarship Brunch as an annual event.
She began her career in law as a prison guard in the Women’s Division of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Mablean appeared in a short film adaptation of the play Diary of a Mad Black Woman in the Madea films.
She portrays a severe and stern judge who repeatedly judges over Madea’s various cases, all of which arise from her aggressive and destructive actions. Madea is never sentenced to prison; instead, she is punished with frustrating but less severe punishments.
House arrest, becoming a foster mother to a rebellious child played by Keke Palmer, and having to attend counseling sessions with Doctor Phil are among the sanctions.
She portrayed the same judge in both Madea’s Family Reunion and Madea Goes to Jail. Like a judge, Mablean’s first name is pronounced “may-BLENE,” as in Chuck Berry’s song “Maybellene.”
