Initially, Welker worked for ABC affiliates WLNE-TV in Providence, RI, and KRCR-TV in Redding, CA. She began her career at NBC’s Philadelphia owned-and-operated station, WCAU, in 2005 as a reporter and weekend anchor.
She joined NBC News in 2010 as a correspondent located in Burbank, California, at the NBC News West Coast Headquarters. In December 2011, she was hired as an NBC White House correspondent.
