Carillo participated on the women’s professional tennis circuit from 1977 to 1980. From January to March 1980, her highest world ranking in the Women’s Tennis Association Rankings was No. 33. She later announced her retirement, citing knee injuries as the reason.
She never won a major singles title, but he did win the mixed-doubles title with John McEnroe at the 1977 French Open. Carillo and McEnroe reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals before losing, and Carillo managed to reach the US Open women’s doubles quarterfinals later that year.
