Sebastian Neil Career
Neil worked in the United States for Al Jazeera English from 2008 to 2016. He was a presenter on Fault Lines, the channel’s flagship news magazine about the Americas, and reported from across the continent, first from Al Jazeera English’s main US bureau in Washington, D.C., and then from Al Jazeera America’s San Francisco Fault Lines show hub.
He was a foreign correspondent before joining Fault Lines, with a specific interest in Haiti. After the 2010 earthquake, Al Jazeera English was the only international TV news network to maintain a bureau in Haiti, and Sebastian arrived in Port-au-Prince less than 24 hours later to report on the damage. He stayed for another year and a half to document the progress of the relief effort.
He has also covered the Occupy movement in the United States and the shooting of Michael Brown near St. Louis, Missouri, which sparked widespread protests. He previously worked in the Middle East before relocating to the Americas. He worked at the channel’s main broadcast center in Doha, Qatar, where he assisted in the channel’s launch.
