David Chang Momofuku | Restaurants
Chang is the founder of the Momofuku restaurant group. Momofuku Ko was granted two Michelin stars in 2009, which it has kept every year since. He launched his first restaurant, Momofuku Noodle Bar, in the East Village in 2004.
Momofuku, according to Chang’s website, means “lucky peach,” but the restaurant also shares a name with Momofuku Ando, the originator of quick noodles. His second restaurant, Momofuku Ssäm Bar, opened a few streets away in August 2006.
Chang and his colleague Christina Tosi, whom he had hired to head Momofuku’s pastry department, extended Momofuku Ssäm Bar into an adjacent location. They named the new location Momofuku Milk Bar, and it serves soft serve as well as cookies, pies, cakes, and other delights, many of which were inspired by things Tosi ate as a child.
Chang launched the 250-seat Majordomo Meat & Fish restaurant in The Venetian Las Vegas’s The Palazzo tower on December 30, 2019. In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Momofuku restaurant group decided to temporarily close its restaurants in March 2020.
