Debra Ponzek Career As a Chef
After graduation, Debra began working as a sous chef for Drew Nieporent at his restaurant Montrachet. Nieporent was an advertising executive who had discovered her while she was working at Toto Steakhouse.
She went on to become executive chef at Montrachet for seven years, during which time the restaurant received high recognition from New York City culinary critics. During her time there, she received the James Beard Foundation Award for Rising Star Chef in 1992.
She prepared three dishes for the Great Chefs – Great Cities television series. Ponzek left Montrachet in 1994 to launch Aux Délices, her own restaurant in Greenwich, Connecticut. She has since grown to multiple locations and runs culinary workshops for the restaurants out of her central kitchen.

Flay dropped out of high school when he was 17 years old. His first employment in the restaurant industry, he claims, were at a pizza parlor and a Baskin-Robbins. He subsequently went to work as a salad maker at Joe Allen Restaurant in Manhattan’s Theater District, where his father was a partner.
Flay has been a master instructor and visiting chef at the French Culinary Institute in addition to his restaurants and television shows. Although he is not actively teaching classes, he does come in on occasion as his schedule allows.
